Guidelines and instructions for submissions
To get published on Howitookit.com, you must fulfill the following criteria
- We accept tutorials and articles related to photography and photography-related software.
- You must be able to send us an invoice which can be paid electronically using a VISA card (E.g: Freshbooks.com, Payoneer.com) or a money request using Paypal.
- Your article can not be published anywhere else online, or resemble content published elsewhere.
- Use only material that you own, or have permission to use, when submitting your work. All articles will be checked with Copyscape.
- All files included in the submission must be archived together in a .zip file.
- We reserve the right to edit your submission.
- We can not accept all submissions we get. Feel free to contact us in advance if thoughts before submitting.
- A good article should be at least 1500 words, while we don’t have a guideline-limit for tutorials, as that depends on your usage of images in the tutorial.
If the tutorial or article is accepted
- You grant a license to Howitookit.com to be the exclusive publisher of the tutorial or article online. You can however republish extracts of the content elsewhere with a link to the full entirety on howitookit.com.
- You may republish the tutorial or article offline in any way you wish, for example by selling it to a book or magazine.
- You grant access to Howitookit.com to use the full tutorial, extracts, samples or examples in any of its services, products or marketing material.
DO’s and DON’Ts
- DO use images you have photographed yourself.
- DO use images from free stock sites, BUT make sure you check the agreement for use in files for distribution. The original creator should always be credited in the article.
- DO use images from Flickr if they have a Creative Commons License for Commercial Use.
- DO use images if prior written permission has been obtained from the original photographer/illustrator/writer.
- DO NOT use images that you have taken from some website or found in Google Search.
- DO NOT use other peoples work without permission.
Please take the time to make sure everything around image licenses is OK before submitting, as this will help both the site, yourself and the original creator of the content.
How to format your tutorial for submission
- Include a preview of the finished image.
- Images should be less than 600px wide. You may link to larger images (Be sure to attach the larger images instead of using external links)
- The work can be submitted in a Doc format (Windows users) or Pages format (Mac users). Of course, if you have experience with HTML we prefer that.
- Make sure all files have some kind of numerical order. 1.jpg, 2.jpg etc., works just fine, but 1-description.jpg, 2.description.jpg etc., is even better (e.g: 1-start-image.jpg, 2-applied-photoshop-effect.jpg etc).
- If you have used any editing by photoshop (or any other software for that matter), we prefer to have the .psd original psd file (this only applies if your submitting an article for the premium section).
How to submit
All submits and requests can be done from our Contact Page. Remember to archive all files in a zip file. If the zip files to big for sending, feel free to upload it somewhere and just send us the link.
